Vexing, Page 1

cosette gurl you gotz some bad bed hair i feel yo pain

Ah, so this is the real reason why I've been taking a while. Mostly character design, story development, all the fun finishing touches to the unfinished work. Yes, this is the lesbian one. I know what you're thinking: "Wait, she said something about a prince! So isn't she really a bisexual? I want my lesbian seckzorz!1!eleven!" Wait and see folks... Anyways, I'm really happy about how the mini-dream sequence and the chibi Cosette came out. The pillow is Gawd Awful though.

So what is Vexing about? It's mostly a graphic novel playing with themes that have always caught my attention: fairy tales, female homosexuality, gender issues (both female and male sexism-- yes, male sexism DOES exist, ladies) and other things I don't care to reveal at this point. I promise to not make this like so many other LGBT stories where everyone except the bad guys are gay on some level-- even though I'm bi, I have always found this annoying and want some level of realism. waitjenathisisagraphicnovelwhatdoyoumeanbyrealismstfu.

Next update Vexing update coming Wednesday. Pretty soon it'll have its own private home away from my blog.

Up Coming Changes

Well, I'm sure most of you have figured out that Nerdspiffy is becoming a big part of who I am lately. I mean, I spend a large amount of time reviewing things and playing new games for it. Plus, I'm starting a webcomic up, which is a big commitment in itself. And I'm starting up a new one, a fantasy drama about lesbians.

This means little-to-no cutbacks with Nerdspiffy. But I will have to cut out other projects I've been involved in up to this point. I'm not quitting a job or anything like that, since I certainly don't earn enough money from this website to support myself... yet.

New Domain!

Hey everybody. The next few days the blog might be a little funky depending on the website you're using-- I have a new domain! Yes, you can now access this lovely blog from www.nerdspiffy.com

Right now I'm just relaxing after a hard day's work. I started work on the second page for Glow Stick Cupcakes For Everyone. I changed up the artstyle a bit and I'm playing around with it, so it's taking a bit longer than normal. I'm also starting to play Time Hollow so I can write another review. After that I promise to lay back on the DS reviews and maybe review something else...

Either way, it has to be something that I already have. I don't have too much cash to spare to buy new games to review because I'm not really sponsored by anyone, haha. Then if I finish up that I'll have to review more manga series.

Oh well. See you next time! The domain should be stable in three days, so keep checking back!

More Tricks Up Takumi's Sleeve (Ghost Trick Review)

Ghost Trick features a pointy haired protagonist on a quest for the truth,
a food loving girl you must save on a number of occasions,
a lovable oaf of a detective,
a young girl who has a parent in jail,
a dead mentor,
a lawman that will stop at nothing to have a perfect record
a wishy-washy minister of justice--
wait a minute

When I first heard that Ghost Trick was being made by the same man who was behind Turnabout Trial, initially I was a little worried. I was thinking that this meant there would be no more Turnabout games, no more Phoenix Wright, and bye-bye Edgeworth. Fortunately, I was very wrong. Turnabout Investigation came first, along with the announced Prof Layton vs Phoenix Wright game, and now there's a second Turnabout Investigation game being released soon. With this franchise growing strongly, it seems like Phoenix is still here to stay. So with those worries aside, I was finally able to suck it up and try out Ghost Trick.

And boy, was it worth it.

ARghalskdflasd My Schedule

Sorry, guys. For the past while posts have been every other day, sometimes not a few days in a row. I have another job as a waitress, which means five days out of the week I spend eight hours on my feet. The tips suck this time of year so I usually come home in a very bad mood. Which means I have little to no energy for blog posting.

If all goes well tonight though, I'll have a review up for Ghost Trick. My next post will be a Glow Stick Cupcakes webcomic post. Thanks for the patience, you guys! Will have to see you later.

Current Addiction: Ace Attorney, Part 2

Well folks, I'm really sad as I type this. Is it because of Ace Attorney: Justice For All? Not quite. It's because yesterday, I bought two new DS games: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective and Time Hollow. I played Ghost Trick for a bit and I am absolutely thrilled with it. But then I realized it was time to put down the DS and open up Blogspot. The sacrifices I make for you all!

At any rate, today's review is a continuation of the Ace Attorney series. Taking place one year after the events of the first courtroom drama, this game brings back all of the stars from the previous one, including... von Karma?!

New Collab Project With Pleyame!

Okay, so I hinted before that he and I would be working on something together. I'm not really used too much to the art style I'm trying out with it, but I like how it came out. And any gamer with ADHD can probably sympathize with Az about this problem.  More updates about this cute little webcomic to come soon!

Also: this is why I haven't made a lot of posts lately. Well, this and my waitressing job. I'll resume my reviews tomorrow. Thanks for your patience, guys!

My Bookshelf: Battle Royale

She's fourteen.

Breaking up the light-hearted, idealistic lawyer games, is a manga series I've been meaning to review for a long time. This is quite honestly the most gruesome, heartbreaking stories I've ever read. From the twisted mind of Koushun Takumi comes the blood-lust dystopian tale known as Battle Royale. Originally a novel, it was later adapted to a live action film and then a manga. I've only had the pleasure of reading the manga version, but I plan on picking up the novel as soon as I can find it. A word of warning, this story is not for the faint of heart. If you can not stomach graphic gore, rape, and potty-mouths I do not suggest picking up this book. Certainly don't if you're not at least 18, as there is near-pornographic levels of sex depicted on several occasions. Hell, I don't even recommend reading this review as I'm going to show several graphic gore images.

... and Wikipedia claims it's a romance novel. Hah.

Current Addition: Motha' Flippin Pleyame

Or maybe it's the Fountain of thin old Spanish guy and
short pudgy woman youneverknowitcouldbe.

So one blogger that I've had the pleasure of chatting with lately is Pleyame. He's really an awesome guy who's starting up a few new blogs, one dedicated to food, the other dedicated to funny webcomics. Being an avid fan of webcomics and cooking myself, we hit it off and have been helping each other out in the blogging game; I have provided a webcomic or two for him to blog about, he's helped me when I'm stuck on a review. He's joked that I'm the girl version of him (obvious bisexuality on my part aside) and I'm sure he's my long lost twin brother.

Anyways, if you're looking for a good recommendation for a webcomic or a deliciously unhealthy recipe, this guy's the person to follow. We'll probably collaborate a few more times in times in the future, so you'll probably hear his name again pretty soon!

Normal reviews will return tomorrow. Till then, see ya!

Current Addiction: Ace Attorney, Part 1

That's what she said.
whooalateupdate

Yesterday, I just blathered on and on about how much I love the Turnabout Trial/Ace Attorney games.  My post gathered a mixed response; some folks liked the games, some folks thought it'd suck, and a large group of people were confused by the concept. I suppose that means I should dive a little deeper and actually review the game. Or games, rather. There are currently five games in the series, for a total of 23 cases. Twenty four victims, fifteen different defendants, five investigations to conduct, twenty three culprits to find. Every case is a Turnabout-- because you turn the case around against unbeatable odds to solve it. If you're into solving murder mysteries and being the underdog, this game is for you.

Platform: Initially GBA, Re-released for DS, Wii, and iPhone
Company: Capcom
Year: 2001 (Japan/GBA), 2004(DS), 2009(Wii, iPhone)

OBJECTION!

Okay, I lied. I definitely do have energy for a SMALL review. Or maybe it's just me gushing. Hahaha.

Anyways, so recently, I discovered that the lovely folks at Capcom are not only making a Layton vs Phoenix Wright game, but a new Turnabout Investigations game as well! While the first Turnabout Investigations was good, it was missing a little "umph" that made the trial games so special. Perhaps it was because how the Turnabout Trials were organized; one part was investigation, and then the other part was the trial-- and during the trial part, you KNEW you were supposed to be on edge. I don't recall myself feeling particularly on edge during the Investigation game. That could also be because the suspect changed so often-- you never really were able to grow attached to the defendant. It was more about convicting the real murderer, not saving someone in trouble. However, this is probably because the game revolves around a prosecutor.

Looking at the trailer for the second, however, has me genuinely excited. It looks like DeKiller is going to be in the game-- and directly questioned, too! There's also a new lady judge, a new asshole prosecutor, and a detective that knew Edgeworth's father. What's interesting about the last bit is that the detective mentions Edgeworth being a defense attorney-- something I fully support! It would be interesting to see an Ace Attorney: Miles Edgeworth game. There's also a new feature called Logic Chess, which looks to be a MUCH BETTER upgrade from the standard logic he had last time. Srsly, this comic sums up the "SPECIAL ABILITY" :

Woo

Hey, it's been a while since I actually posted.

The thing is, I'm really busy lately, so I haven't been able to play ANY video games and do any reviews, really. And when I do have the time, I lack the energy for it. So for now, I'm just going to post some daily lolz, because laughter is the only thing I have energy for.

Welp, that's about it.

For now, here's this:
